St. Mary’s Church and Clinton Funeral Home Invite Public to Remembrance Day Service Nov. 2 to Honor the Deceased Loved Ones of Local Residents

For the second consecutive year, the Episcopal Church of St. Mary-in-the-Highlands and Clinton Funeral Home of Cold Spring are inviting the public to attend an ecumenical Service of Remembrance, honoring the deceased loved ones of local residents, to be held at St. Mary’s on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.

The service, to be followed by a small reception, is intended, firstly, to reach out to families who have lost a loved one recently, and, secondly, to help comfort anyone who grieves or has mourned someone dear who has passed away, regardless of the time that may have lapsed.

“It has been our experience that when a loved one dies, the family can often be so caught up in all of the practical considerations that they get very little time for grief,” Father Shane Scott-Hamblen, rector of St. Mary’s, and Mr. James Clinton, funeral home director, explained in announcing the event. “Now that some time has passed, we that they might find the Remembrance Service helpful.  It is open to all people and all faiths.”

“November is the traditional month for remembering our `faithful departed,’” Fr. Shane added. “Towards the end of the service, everyone will be invited to come up to the altar and place a candle in memory of his or her loved ones. Then the church lights will be turned down and we will pray for those who are now with God. The power of this service never ceases to amaze me.”

The service will be followed by a light reception in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall.

St. Mary's is located at the corner of Route 9D (Morris Avenue-Chestnut Street) and Route 301 (Main Street) in Cold Spring.
